What Can I expect at Christ First?

Atmosphere…

We know choosing a church can be tough. Music, teaching, ministries, outreach – there are a lot of factors that go into the decision.

We want your experience here to be meaningful and it starts when you arrive. Visit our Welcome Center and feel free to ask our greeters questions. They’re here to help with anything you need from how to get your child to the right place or where the restroom is, to getting you a complimentary cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

You’ll experience friendly people, a mix of worship music from hymns to contemporary and relevant messages in a comfortable environment. We want to make you feel as welcome as possible. If you’d like to view a past service for an indication of what to expect, you can do so by visiting our YouTube Library.

A typical service…

There’s a lot going on Sunday mornings! The Welcome Center and coffee counter are open at 9:30 in the foyer. Kids, students and adults have their own Sunday School classes that meet at 10AM for Bible study. Sunday School classes dismiss at 10:45 and the auditorium starts filling up with people ready for an awesome service!

Sunday service starts at 11AM often times with a short, topical video, some worship music and announcements. This is followed by more worship music, meet-and-greet and an introduction of the offering by one of our deacons. An offering is then received. (As a visitor you will not be asked or expected to give an offering. You’re our guest!) After another song or two, Pastor O’Neal will give a message designed to help you apply Biblical principles to everyday life. This message will be about 45-50 minutes in length. At the end of the message, there will be a closing song. You’re welcome to talk to or pray with our pastor, his wife Lanette or one of our deacons after the service.

Following the service, Pastor O’Neal and his wife Lanette like to hang out in the lobby near the Welcome Center to meet and chat with you and other guests.

What to wear…

We’re a “come-as-you-are” church and we figure God cares more about our hearts than our clothes. The Bible tells us “Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7. If you really want to know, most people wear business casual but you’ll see suits and ties here and there and a good amount of people wearing jeans.

What we believe…

Our mission is to “Love God. Grow Together. Serve Others”. We’re committed to bringing people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, assisting them to maturity in the Christian faith and equipping all believers to share the gospel message with as many as will listen. Who needs church anyway…

Who needs the church anyway? Some say, “I don’t need to go to church. I like to spend my time alone with God and I don’t need to be around other Christians.” The reality is no Christian can endure or prosper long if they live in isolation without the support of a church. No matter how many Christian books, magazines, CDs and movies you have, they can’t replace the experience and fellowship you get from attending church and being with other believers.

A key to spiritual growth is to become part of a local church. In its biblical form, the church should provide biblically-sound teaching, genuine worship, an atmosphere in which Christians are able to use their God-given gifts and abilities and spiritual leadership that will help keep believers accountable.

In the book of Hebrews, it says, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some do, but encourage each other, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

It has been wisely said, “The church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints.” Regular fellowship and participation in the church can’t be overemphasized. As you come to church and find your place in it, you will then be in a position to give to others what God has given to us.

The model for a God-honoring church is in the Scriptures. Study God’s design and pray to be led to the place He has prepared for you. We would be honored if you’d be our guest at one of our services and we’d be privileged to help you grow in your relationship with Christ and grow in your faithfulness.

Christ First is a church full of people just like you. We are all different in that we are unique individuals created by the hand and heart of God, but we are all the same in that we are all sinners in need of God’s redeeming love. No matter who you are, where you’re from, or what your background may be, we want you to know that you are welcomed and wanted at Christ First. God loves you just the way you are… but He doesn’t want to leave you that way! He has a great plan for your life. Join us on the journey to discover God’s best for our lives! Let us help you determine and keep “First Things First” in your life this year.
